Advertised Job Summary Applications are invited for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of applied and computational mathematics, associated with the SmartState Chair in Data Analysis, Simulation, Imaging, and Visualization (DASIV). Research areas covered by DASIV include data assimilation and parameter estimation, reduced order modeling and related stable variational formulations of underlying PDE models, as well as machine learning and structural imaging. An overarching theme for the research conducted in the DASIV center is the development of new syntheses of data-driven and model based methodologies. A preferred research profile for this tenure-track Assistant Professor position should reflect expertise and interest in mathematical aspects of Data Science, for instance, with focus on related large scale stochastic optimization, or artificial intelligence concepts, or sparse recovery. The Mathematics Department (http://www.math.sc.edu/), located in the heart of the historic campus, currently has 37 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 9 instructors, 46 graduate students, over 180 majors, and 40 minors. Faculty research interests include analysis, numerical analysis, modeling and simulation, scientific computing, biomathematics, constructive approximation, discrete mathematics, as well as algebra, geometry, logic, number theory, and topology. Required Education and Experience Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, an outstanding research program, a commitment to effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a demonstrated potential for excellence in both research and teaching.
