Job Description
We have an opening for aPostdoctoral Research Staff Memberin the field of theory development and application of electronic structure methods for the understanding prediction and control of materials properties under a wide range of external conditions. The candidate will develop and implement cutting-edge algorithmic approaches for performing electronic structure calculations on some of the worlds fastest supercomputers. This position is in the Equation of State (EOS) Capability Development and Application group in the Condensed Matter Section of the Physics Division.
In this roleyou will
Develop and implement algorithmic advances for the optimal use of heterogeneous supercomputers for performing large-scale real-space electronic structure calculations of materials.
Generate theoretical EOS data using advanced first-principles electronic structure methods.
Advance the current state of the art in simulations of materials under condensed matter and high-energy-density conditions.
Work with users to implement desired code capabilities.
Work with computer scientists to optimize code for different computer architectures.
Publish research results in external peer-reviewed scientific journals and participate in international conferences.
Presentformal and informal overview of research progress at regular meetings.
Pursue complementary research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- PhD in physics chemistry materials science or related field.
Experience in self-consistent relaxation and quantum molecular dynamics calculations.
Experience in mathematical and algorithmic formulation of electronic structure methodologies.
Experience in prototype implementation and testing of new electronic structure algorithms (e.g. Python Matlab).
Experience in large-scale parallel implementation and testing of new electronic structure algorithms (e.g. C/C++ MPI OpenMP math libraries valgrind).
Experience in developing and implementing efficient algorithms on modern computing platforms to solve problems in the condensed matter and/or high energy density regimes.
Ability to work independently on technical tasks influence technical objectives provide in depth analysis and develop unique technical solutions.
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse set of scientists engineers and other technical and administrative staff.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment prepare written reports and present and explain technical information.
Qualifications We Desire
Experience with real-space electronic structure methods.
Experience with GPU implementation of computational science codes and GPU math libraries.
Experience with collaborative development and distribution platforms (e.g. github).
