What You Will Do
The XCP-4 (Continuum Models and Numerical Methods) is seeking applicants for a postdoc position to research develop and implement new methods in software for simulating the dynamics of materials and quasi-static solid mechanics. The successful candidate is expected to work in a team environment perform computational engineering/physics research enrich the capabilities of large production software follow software engineering best-practices publish the research in high-quality journals and present work at international conferences.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Numerical Methods
You will need Experience developing and implementing numerical methods within physics simulation software
Programming
You will need to be proficient in at least one computer language such as C++ Python or FORTRAN
Communication
Communication skills are critical to this position. You will be expected to document the research in reports conference proceedings or journal papers; as well as present the work at meetings or conferences. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
Collaboration
Team work is essential to the success of our group. As such you will need to have demonstrated the ability to function effectively in a team environment with a willingness to learn new skills and be flexible in work assignments. This includes exhibiting professional conduct in interactions with co-workers and supervisors.
Clearance
This position requires the ability to obtain a Q clearance which typically requires US citizenship.
Education:
Earned or close to completing a Ph.D. in engineering physics applied mathematics or related area.
Desired Qualifications:
Methods
It is desirable if the candidate has experience with: (a) high-order methods including finite element and discontinuous Galerkin methods (b) direct and iterative solvers for linear systems of equations (c) optimization methods and (d) Lagrangian methods for modeling the dynamics of materials or quasi-static solid mechanics.
Meshes
Experience creating and implementing algorithms for unstructured and curvilinear meshes
Software Engineering & Design
It is desirable if the candidate has experience using of modern software engineering practices such as git code review and continuous integration systems and possess an understanding of modern software design practices including object-oriented programming and data-oriented design.
Novel Programming
Experience with programming for novel architectures including GPUs
C++
A thorough understanding of C+ Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos NM.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
