What You Will Do
The Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics Group (T-3) is seeking outstanding candidates for a post-doctoral research opportunity in computational mechanics materials modeling and data science. The prospective post-doctoral research associate will take lead roles in (i) high-fidelity physics-based modeling and (ii) data-driven reduced-order modeling of inelastic deformation and failure in solid materials and (iii) development of advanced computational techniques for the effective implementation and application of such models.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
A doctoral degree in engineering materials science scientific computing or a related field completed within the last five years or soon to be completed. Strong background and demonstrated research experience in theoretical modeling and numerical simulation of large-deformation problems. Strong interest and expertise in the mechanics and physics of plasticity damage and/or fracture and models of these behaviors. Demonstrated experience with computational methods/codes for the solution of initial/boundary value problems and the implementation of material models into such codes. Excellent oral and written communication skills the ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team conducting theoretical/computational and experimental work and the ability to interact effectively with other members of such a diverse team of specialists.
Desired Qualifications:
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is a considerable plus:
Phase field models of microstructural evolution and/or damage and fracture processes
Formulation and solution of coupled multi-physics problems
Algorithm and code development for parallel and emerging architectures
Nonlocal/generalized continuum mechanics and constitutive modeling
Single-crystal and/or poly-crystal plasticity modeling.
