The Leidos Research Support Team supporting the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is seeking a Computational Geo-Scientist to join our Team in Albany ORas part of our Workforce Development Program. This opportunity will allow side-by-side execution of research with world-class scientists and engineers using state of the art equipment to contribute to new areas of basic and applied research.
The employee will leverage their data science capabilities to participate in research that focuses on developing tools and managing data that provide critical insightstosupport the priorities of the DOE Fossil Energy and Carbon Management mission space.
TERM OF COMMITMENT: This research position is intended to be a term position with varying levels of commitment that are not expected to last longer than 1 year.You will be informed prior to applying what length of commitment is anticipated. Also those who successfully fill a term position may be invited to apply for an additional term.Nothing in this paragraph is intended to create an employment contract.Employment will remain at will.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Building and modifying software tools using Pythonwriting customizedstandalone scriptsdevelopingnew applications
- Maintaining software and applications
- Datacollection aggregation processing and interpretation of experimental and field-based geochemicalgeophysical and remote sensingdata using statistical numerical graphical GIS and quantitative tools
- Collaborating withinterdisciplinaryteam includinggeologists and other science researchers to assist each other in accomplishing project-related tasks
- Building relationships with internal and external clients
- Creating and delivers oral and poster presentations of results
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Masters Degree program or recent graduate in data science computer science mathgeologygeography geo-statistics geospatial science environmental science or similar field with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience
- Proficient inPython
- FamiliaritywithRSoftwareand technical proficiencies in GIS(ArcGIS suite)database management(PostgreSQL) and remote sensing
- Demonstrable skills in the application of variousartificial intelligence/machine learning methodsfor analysesand software development
- Willingness and interest in learning geological information related to data (i.e. offshore subsurface topics and spatial data)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with C C++ SQL data libraries and source code repositories
- Familiarity with JavaScript HTML PHP CSS
- Course work in spatial analysis spatial statistics spatial modeling web programming spatial databases programming and scripting for GIS digital image processing and analysis GIS program management geological applications of remote sensing and geologic field mapping methods
Pay Range:
COVID Response
