What You Will Do
A newly funded project for developing a multi-physics adaptive scalable simulator for applications in plasma physics is seeking candidates for multiple postdoctoral positions spanning the areas of fluid dynamics plasma physics fluid-kinetic coupling physical model and numerical method development optimization machine learning adaptive meshing strategies and software development for world-class heterogenous architectures. This position is a two-year term. The successful candidate will:
Work on a team which includes other staff members postdocs and students.
Develop models methods and/or software to facilitate ground-breaking multi-physics multi-scale simulations on world-class computational platforms.
Publish in high-quality journals and present work at international conferences.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Publications in one or more of the following areas: plasma physics computational fluid dynamics kinetic effects fluid-kinetic coupling numerical methods machine learning. Draft manuscripts on preprint servers will also be considered.
Strong communication and language skills as evidenced by publications and the cover letter.
Education: A Ph.D. in physics/engineering or related field completed within the past 5 years is required.
Desired Qualifications:
Familiarity with plasma physics and the relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell-Boltzmann equations.
Familiarity with optimization and machine learning techniques.
Familiarity with spectral methods or high-order finite differences.
Familiarity with open source development unit testing CMake and spack.
Familiarity with Linux modern C++ HPC systems task parallelism and MPI.

The Computer Computational and Statistical Sciences (CCS) Division is a scientific research and development organization working in five principal mission areas of Los Alamos National Laboratory: Climate and Energy programs; Basic science and technology research programs; Threat reduction and Department of Homeland Security programs; The nuclear weapons program; and Information science and technology. The division is comprised of scientists focused on impactful research and development in fundamental computer science computational physics statistics and applied mathematics. CCS Division bridges the computational sciences that are central to scientific discovery and innovation with external partners and laboratory programs to solve complex and fundamental problems ranging frommetagenomics to nuclear energy.
