What You Will Do
Are you looking for opportunities to be part of an exceptional multidisciplinary team tackling some of the hardest problems facing our society nationally and globally? The Computational Earth Science group in the Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has immediate openings for five (5) postdoctoral research associate positions. Our group spans subsurface flow and transport surface hydrology climate fire wildfire and atmospheric transport in support of both national security and environmental applications. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in one or more of these areas. Examples of project areas that a successful candidate will work on are:
Computational model development and applications in gas migration in subsurface porous media that include coupled thermal mechanical hydrologic and chemical systems
Land surface and numerical modeling to create new representations of Arctic permafrost hydrology as well as trips to Alaska to support the collection of field observations for model improvement
Theoretical/computational development of machine learning algorithms and tools and application of physics-informed and unsupervised machine learning for geothermal exploration oil/gas production and carbon sequestration
Issues related to regional deployment of large-scale Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) projects including quantification and management of long-term risks; real-time prediction and field management; regional infrastructure
Remote sensing and big data analysis in the Earth Sciences and/or energy resource modeling
If you have an interest in these or other areas of research that the Computational Earth Science Group is involved in we encourage you to apply.
You will contribute to collaborative projects with a focus on shared outcomes publish results in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present your work at professional conferences. The term of the appointment is two (2) years with the option to extend to a third year depending on performance and funding availability.
