Job Description:
Job Description Computational Biologist -- Translational Analysis Group
The Broad Institute has a long history of generating massive genomic datasets from the Human Genome Project to The Cancer Genome Atlas and developing cutting edge analytical tools for large-scale genomic analyses. The Broad Genomics Platform is the largest generator of human sequencing data to support impactful science for both research and clinical communities. The group functions like a small biotech company within the larger institute -- we have a highly collaborative environment with a team of biologists engineers project and product managers and computational scientists. We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual with a computational or bioinformatics background to join the Translational Analysis Group at the Broad Genomics Platform. Our mission is to connect data generation with specialized analysis tools and support large-scale analytical activities for both internal and external projects in research and industry settings. We implement benchmark and run best practice methods using a variety of large scale analysis platforms including Terra (google cloud). We interact with a wide variety of collaborating groups from both the germline and somatic research communities -- providing great opportunities for growth and building a network. The successful candidate will provide rigorous data analysis and spearhead projects requiring computational analysis with tools and pipelines developed in-house or externally. Successful candidates will also work closely with associate computational biologists within the group to provide mentorship and skill development with the goal of expanding the overall analytic capabilities of the team.
REQUIREMENTS PhD degree in computational biology computer science (bio)statistics biology genetics or related fields. Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python Java C/C++ or equivalent. Experience with a scientific computing tool such as R or Matlab. Strong knowledge of analyzing high-throughput sequencing data (especially exomes panels and whole-genome sequencing data). Proficiency in Unix/Linux platforms (including shell scripting) in an on-premises or in-cloud setting. Working knowledge of Docker images is a plus. Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are strongly preferred.
