Job Description
The Computational Biology Group at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is currently seeking a Post Bach research associate. The candidate will be involved in cutting-edge research focused on computational chemistry protein design and informatics to automate physics-informed simulations data to predict key features of molecules and proteins with potential application in developing new machine learning methods for understanding biomolecular function. The incumbent will assist in computational tool development for fully autonomous design statistical analysis of high-throughput multi-omics data and work directly in interdisciplinary teams including chemists bioinformaticians computer scientists data scientists and software developers. The position involves work with high-performance computing platforms statistical computing and data integration methods. The research associate will contribute to large multidisciplinary research programs focused on fundamental sciences and will assist in computational biology method development and validation; work directly with experimental biologists and to contribute to presentations and journal articles.
Candidates must have a major in Computer Sciences/Software engineering Biological/Chemical Sciences Bioinformatics or a closely related field.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a Bachelors degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 required.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidate will have an interdisciplinary background in software engineering applied math bioinformatics/computational biology biophysics computational chemistry analysis and interpretation of high-throughput omics data development and application of machine learning and statistical methods.
Experience with computational chemistry modeling and simulation data integration to develop temporal graph based neural networks for the protein structural data.
Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and packages (e.g. regression and classification algorithms supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms random Forest support vector machine neural networks deep learning sci-kit Learn MATLAB Theano Torch TensorFlow)
Experience with Unix/Linux HPC environments and high-level programming language (e.g. Python R and Matlab).
