Research Scientist: Bioinformatics & Machine Learning - Development of Genome Editing Tools (f/m/d) The Applied Mathematics group within Bayer is looking for a Research Scientist (f/m/d) with expertise in machine learning and bioinformatics to join Bayer Engineering & Technology in Leverkusen Germany. The successful  applicant for this two-year limited position will be part of an interdisciplinary and cross-divisional team within the R&D organization and will contribute to the development of CRISPR based gene editing tools for plants and mammalian cells.   YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES   You will be responsible for all computational aspects within a collaborative international project that aims to develop gene editing systemsYou work on the interface of molecular biology cell culture and high throughput omics as well as data science and bioinformatic and you develop models that bridge both worldsYour activities will include mining in-house metagenomic databases for candidate gene resourcesYou are able to develop custom NGS-analysis workflows to characterize and quantify genome editing outcomesMulti omics data sets shall be used to understand deconvolute and predict genome location effects in mammalian cell lines and plantsYou design compose and deliver presentations and publicationsYou will be part of an international and interdisciplinary cross-divisional team comprising cell and molecular biologists mathematicians and machine learning experts
   WHO YOU ARE   You have successfully completed a PhD in natural science or computer science with a strong background in bioinformatics and experience in machine learning and/or data driven modellingYou have extensive experience in developing data science approaches in the context of omics technologies (e.g. genome sequencing transcriptomics epigenetics)You are familiar with state-of-the-art of bioinformatics and data science and have a strong willingness to further develop expertise in these areasYou are able to develop custom NGS-analysis workflows to characterize and quantify genome editing outcomesWillingness and curiosity to learn experimental set-ups novel mathematical approaches as well as to dig into Pharma- and Crop Science-R&DYou are able to  work in interdisciplinary teams with excellent interpersonal and communication skillsHigh level of English communication skills in verbal and written form
