Summary A research and training opportunity for aspiring and experienced computational biologists and microbiologists to develop workflows for metagenomics analysis. Learn the latest tools and methods for this highly desired analysis and create a reproducible analysis pipeline for several agriculturally-relevant microbial datasets. Responsibilities Conducts studies in basic and applied computational biology, including metagenome assembly, DNA/RNA sequencing, taxonomic classification, and data management. Develops an extensible pipeline for metagenome DNA sequence data analysis and documents pipeline features for deployment as part of the USDA's SCINet initiative. Travel Required Occasional travel - Local and domestic travel travel will be required for field work and to attend training and scientific meetings and conferences. Qualifications This position requires a recent Ph.D in biology or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of analyzing microbiological sequence data, metagenome assembly analysis, and a practical understanding of rumen microbiology is highly desired.
