Job Description:

Responsibilities Establish understanding of the underlying biology by which antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) promote intestinal health and growth in swine, to identify and validate suitable alternatives to antibiotics (ATAs) that mimic the actions of AGPs. Develop experimental and computational methods for the role of the gastrointestinal tract and microbiome, proteome and metabolome in response to AGPs to decipher mechanisms regulating gut physiology as it relates to piglet growth. Develop experimental and computational methods for physiological, proteomic and metabolomic effects to distinguish successful ATA candidates. Develop experimental and computational methods for: genomic, microbiome, proteome and metabolome interactions that elucidate the role of the host?s genetic make-up in response to AGPs and ATAs. Take a systems biology approach coupled with computational innovations and ?omic? technologies to analyze the complexity of the symbiotic interactions between gut cells and microbes. Use functional genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics or metagenomics to establish putative genes and/or pathways impacted by AGPs and ATAs in both the host and microbes for data analytical modeling. Use computational methods (bioinformatics, translational genomics, artificial intelligence, machine learning tools) to manage/ interpret multitude of large, complex datasets, and modeling to establish biological pathways and interaction paradigms.
