Job overview We are looking for Principal Scientist – level computational biologist to join the newly forming Computational Discovery team within the Oncology Discovery unit. This person will be responsible for leading our efforts in the development and the use of state-of-the-art computational approaches in the discovery and the design of biologically active small molecules. The incumbent is a domain expert in the computational chemistry methodology pertaining to drug discovery, including virtual docking, molecular dynamics simulations and overall protein chemistry. He/she has an extensive proven track record, as established by first/senior-author publications in top journals or patent filings, of developing and using novel approaches for the discovery and chemical and functional characterization of drug-like compounds. The incumbent is expected to be fully proficient in the emerging methodologies in the field, such as novel machine/deep learning and generative modeling approaches applied to protein-protein and protein-compound interface studies. He/she also has a good knowledge and understanding of the basics of cell biology and of the cell biological mechanisms and processes that are relevant to cancer. Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to; Use and develop advanced data science tools for rapid prioritization of chemical structures with pre-defined functional properties Create capabilities for the study of protein and compound chemistry in conjunction with the existing computational infrastructure for cell/pathway/gene-level mechanistic studies Effectively communicate with the group head as well as cross-functional teams to establish priorities and clear plans for deliverables Present findings to the leadership and cross-functional teams on a regular basis Aid the software development team in the adoption of some computational tools into the Lumin Bioinformatics application Package novel findings for publications in scientific journals and conference meetings Contribute to building the reputation of Champions Oncology as a leader in the computational oncology research Qualifications and Skills Ph.D in bioinformatics, computational biology, chemistry or a related discipline with a minimum of 5+ years of post-doctoral experience in the areas outlined above Strong expertise in computational medicinal chemistry and drug design Strong expertise in statistical and machine learning approaches and tools in the computational drug design field Strong knowledge of cancer-relevant cell and molecular biology, and good familiarity with the cancer therapeutics field This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions, it does not proscribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
