Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week) Annual Salary Range: $66,700 - $110,100 Offers will typically be made in the bottom half of the listed range. NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the positions work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when in determining the salary level for potential new employees. Job Description A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in NREL's Materials Physics Group. The candidate will join a collaborative environment of multi-disciplinary teams, and work on challenging problems with importance in both applied and basic science. The research scope requires a solid background and experience in first principles calculations for solid state systems. The candidate is expected to both apply and further develop state-of-the-art computational tools. Specific research topics include structure predictions for photovoltaic interfaces, and disorder in topological materials. The assignment is for one year with a possible extension, contingent upon the continuity of funding. Job Duties and Responsibilities · Work with senior staff to design projects and develop research plans · Execute research plan towards the goals and milestones of the funded projects · Acquire proficiency in research areas pertinent to the projects · Professional interaction with scientific collaborators, management, and clients · Document research results in reports, presentations, conferences · Participate in sponsor relations and reporting · Participate in program development and proposal writing · Fulfill institutional training requirements, observe safe and secure environment, sound business practices . Basic Qualifications Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years. . Additional Required Qualifications Experience in first principles calculations Strong background in solid state physics and electronic structure theory Programming skills (e.g., Python, C++, Fortran), and familiarity with Unix/Linux in high-performance computing environments Creativity and strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to conduct self-motivated research, critically assess results, and troubleshoot when necessary Excellent communication skills in technical writing, oral presentation, and interpersonal communication Team spirit in an environment with both computational and experimental collaborators Ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously Preferred Qualifications Experience with structure prediction algorithms and interface structure prediction. .
