The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) is seeking a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Software Consultant (part-time / 20-hours per week) to join our ICDS-ACI iAsk Team. This position will be an integral contributor to a fast-paced and growing team of specialists supported by an exciting $60 million Penn State investment in research cyberinfrastructure. Penn State’s elite researchers use our high-performance research cloud to solve real-world problems by conducting simulations, data mining, and other high-performance computing operations. With ICDS, you will have the opportunity to support this groundbreaking work. As a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Software Consultant, you will: work with ICDS staff, faculty, and research groups to assist them in advancing their research by compiling and testing software; troubleshooting issues related to a group’s research; aiding in the implementation of scientific applications and utilization of ICDS-ACI; and building, testing, and administering scientific software applications on ICDS-ACI. Our desired qualifications and skills include: running scientific applications in a high-performance computing environment; knowledge and use of Linux/UNIX-based systems; optimizing and/or developing applications on Linux/UNIX-based systems; programming in compiled/scripting languages such as C/C++, Fortran, Python, Julia, R, bash; experience with containers (singularity and docker); using queuing systems and schedulers (Moab, Torque, Slurm, SGE); excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience; experience in providing customer service; preferably in a technical support/help desk environment; and the ability to learn general concepts and technologies quickly and independently.
