Job Title Monte Carlo Computational Scientist/Developer (Scientist 2) Location Los Alamos, NM, US Organization Name XCP-3/Monte Carlo Codes Minimum Salary 91800 Maximum Salary 151400 What You Will Do Are you looking for a career that is intellectually challenging and imbued with purpose? If the answer is “yes we encourage you to learn more about our opening for a Monte Carlo Computational Scientist/Developer (Scientist 2) in XCP-3. XCP-3 provides the Monte Carlo particle transport simulation capability needed to accurately predict the interaction of radiation with matter. Our work supports a variety of Laboratory missions, including stockpile stewardship, nonproliferation, threat reduction, and energy and environmental sciences. We deliver technology, methods, production quality codes, and training to sponsors, primarily U.S. federal agencies, through research, development, and maintenance of high-quality software and documentation. Our predictive capability is the nation’s foremost predictive tool for nuclear criticality safety simulations and plays a central role in tying nuclear weapon simulations to the nuclear test database. In this role you will perform research and development to improve Monte Carlo particle transport simulation in areas support the national-security programs and mission of the Laboratory. You will be expected to develop and maintain the group’s production Monte Carlo particle transport codes, which include the Fortran code MCNP and C++ code MCATK. What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Scientific Background You must have advanced knowledge (PhD level) in one or more of the following technical areas: Monte Carlo radiation transport theory and modelling, computational parallelism, GPU programming. Programming For this role you will need proficiency in either Fortran or C++. Collaboration Team work is essential to the success of our group. As such you will need to have demonstrated the ability to function effectively in a team environment with a willingness to learn new skills and be flexible in work assignments. This includes exhibiting professional conduct in interactions with co-workers and supervisors. Communication Communication skills are critical in our group. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Education/Experience: Position requires an advanced degree in a STEM field from an accredited college and university.
