Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) Capital Area Division (CAD) is seeking a Computational Scientist for our Alexandria, VA location. The ideal candidate has interests in structured computational methodologies such as computational structural mechanics or computational fluid dynamics. The candidate should have experience developing code written in a compiled language such as Fortran, C, or C++. Proficiency in physics, mathematics, or engineering is highly desirable. This position will place you in a team of engineers and scientists developing modeling and simulation tools to address weapons effects environments for a Department of Defense customer. The Computational Scientist may be required to: Implement new material models in physics-based codes Enhance existing code bases and validate model numeric stability Perform modeling analysis in support of customer objectives Support end-to-end scientific modeling and simulation, to include but not be limited to computer aided design (CAD), meshing, model & simulation setup and execution, visualization, analysis, and reporting Conduct verification and validation of models Utilize high performance computing resources to run sophisticated, high fidelity simulations Develop algorithms to solve customer problems or meet computing requirements and constraints Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computational science, computer science, physics, or engineering. Education or experience with computational methods for fluid dynamics or structural mechanics, such as finite element analysis Minimum 2 years experience Strong Programming skills to include experience with at least one compiled language such as Fortran, C, or C++. US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret security clearance Desired Qualifications: Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in computational science, computer science, geophysics, or geotechnical engineering. Proficiency in mathematics, physics, and / or engineering. Experience with Linux based systems Experience with scientific computing visualization tools such as ParaView or VisIt Current DoD Secret security clearance.
