Responsibilities Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a Computational Scientist to contribute to the development of the BISON nuclear fuel performance code. Expectations of candidates in this role include: - Develop, support, maintain, and document advanced multiphysics analysis tools within the Computational Mechanics and Materials Department and the Nuclear Fuels and Materials Division. - Be responsible for developing models, methods, and verification/validation strategies supporting nuclear fuel performance application being developed by the Nuclear Science and Technology Directorate. - Support development and demonstration of advanced concepts and techniques that positively influence a given technical field. - Utilize skills in computational thermomechanics, advanced numerical methods, computational material science, coupling strategies, multiscale methods, and time integration. - Be a strong asset to our mature, high-energy R&D team and work effectively in isolation, as a team member, and as a research project leader. - Document work, including manuals, conferences, and refereed journal articles. - Maintain a record of sponsor satisfaction and support. - Regularly publish research in peer-reviewed journals, present research at technical conferences, and provide peer review of research internal and external to INL. - Participate in professional activities and external collaborations at the national and international level. - In collaboration with others, develop plans for new research areas. - Mentor summer students, postdoctoral researchers, and other staff through providing technical and career guidance. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications/Requirements: PhD in nuclear engineering with an understanding of nuclear fuel behavior, including computational modeling and rigorous verification of computational models. Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment. Appreciable knowledge of numerical methods, computational science, and scientific software engineering. Ability to organize activities relative to work package scope, deliverables, and milestones. Demonstrated ability to collaborate productively with others. Must have excellent technical writing and oral communication skills.
