Missile Systems' Directed Energy Group performs cutting-edge research on advanced directed energy concepts involving High-Power Microwave (HPM), High-Energy Laser (HEL), and Charged Particle Beam (CPB) systems and associated components. This position is for an Intern student interested in the broad area of physics simulation design and software programing. The ideal candidate should have strong academic credentials and experience in working in a team environment, having not only academic, but also interpersonal skills to help optimize our teams. The single most important attribute is an inquisitive nature and a strong desire to learn real world applications to compliment your academic experience. Familiarity with hardware or software tools as appropriate for your academic level. The candidate should be interested in working in a highly motivated team environment, collaborating with a small team of scientists and engineers through the development of state of the art physics simulation software. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment. Required Education/Skills: Pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Physics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degree per Raytheon guidelines. This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. Desired Skills: ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher desired. A proactive leader in the software development arena who thrives in a collaborative team environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Interest and/or coursework in any of the following areas: physics, simulation programming, Particle-In-Cell (PIC) codes, particle transport codes, and object-oriented software design. Competency in at least two of the following languages: C++, Java, Matlab, and Python. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles.
