At Applied Materials, we are pioneering novel nano-photonic devices for applications in imaging, sensing, and computing. We are harnessing the power of Applied Material’s world-leading material science and nano-fabrication capabilities to enable the next generation of photonic devices. Our photonics modeling and design team is currently seeking to hire a Computational Optics/Electromagnetics researcher with a PhD or equivalent learning in photonics, optics, physics or computer science. Key Responsibilities ?Build high-performance software to model and design complex optical, electromagnetics or nano-photonic devices ? Functional Knowledge Requires deep understanding of electromagnetics and classical optics Proficient in first-principle analysis of optical and electromagnetic devices Must be proficient in simulation methods such as rigorous couple wave analysis, finite-difference time-domain, finite element methods, fourier optics and ray tracing Familiarity with laser/LED device physics, diffractive optics, optical materials and nano-fabrication methods is advantageous Expertise in computational geometry is also advantageous Proficient in Python and C++; Experience writing high-performance algorithms in C++ is preferred Proficient in simulation methods such as RCWA, FDTD, FEM, Fourier Optics, Ray Optics Experience writing custom in-house simulation software with simulation-to-experiment validation #LI Business Expertise Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services Leadership Must thrive at both independent exploration and collaborative execution in a cross-functional team.
