This role will fall under the GTCS Scientific Computing group which provides scientists with cutting-edge computational informatics and analytics tools and services in support of research and early development.

We are seeking a creative and talented Computational Biologist with an interest in using machine learning, large datasets and automation to revolutionize drug development. You will work regularly with and learn from our multilingual team of machine learning scientists, software engineers, computational biologists, molecular geneticists, and wet-lab scientists to help design oligonucleotide therapies.

We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician (positions open in multiple groups) with strong programming and scripting skills to help us advance our therapeutic programs to the next level. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team of biologists and computational scientists, and take on tasks spanning analysis and visualization of experimental data, processing of genomics data, designing antisense oligonucleotide compounds, and supporting pre-clinical development programs.

The appointee will work with a multi-disciplinary team including clinicians and scientists to study undiagnosed disorders and cancers through analysis of whole genome sequencing data coupled with clinical information as part of the Hong Kong Genome Project Partnering Centre based at The University of Hong Kong and Queen Mary Hospital.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in pharmaceutical or medical sciences, biology, chemistry, engineering, or a related area, and a minimum of 1 year of postdoctoral experience, or equivalent (e.g related professional experience in industry, government, etc.), in an area of research related to drug discovery or drug/diagnostics development that will build on the strengths of the Faculty.

The Bioinformatician will process biomedical data by utilizing/applying existing informatics/software resources/analysis methods on multiple computing platforms/in multiple programming languages, automating/managing repetitive tasks, developing small-scale software modules, assist in extracting/organizing/manipulating/annotating/visualizing/summarizing data from diverse data sources to aid knowledge discovery and inference process, and carry out custom bioinformatics tasks as required and specified by the senior staff and principal investigator.

The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in ongoing projects as well as develop new research ideas. Specific duties will include, data analysis, interpretation of results, and presentation of findings and preparation of peer reviewed manuscripts.

Purina is seeking a computational scientist who will be part of transversal team investigating how biological and external factors affect pet health span using a system biology approach based on integrated data from omics technology platforms including, genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics and microbiome.
