Description: The Nanostructures team (Prof. Alain Rochefort) from École Polytechnique de Montréal in collaboration with the Nanoscience Group (Dr. Xavier Bouju) at CEMES in Toulouse are looking for a Ph. D. candidate to participate in the project on intrusive STM imaging simulation. The purpose of this project is to produce a virtual STM microscope in which an external user can chemically and/or structurally change the nanoscopic object in observation. To do so, the candidate will have to consider different forms of semi-empirical potentials to account for relaxation of the modified objects. The results of STM simulations will be compared and validated using results from single objects experiments, and with different targeted DFT calculations.
For this project, candidates that are highly motivated the numerical computations, optimization algorithms and physics of surfaces will be considered.
