Job Description:

This position is for a research and development position focusing on computational electromagnetic models within the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) and beam propagation method (BPM) frameworks. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing models or tools within the applicable Optiwave products. Development of application examples representing the current state of literature developments will also be of interest.

The candidate should be self-motivated and be able to demonstrate both technical and interpersonal skills within a collaborative team environment.

Customer satisfaction and support are important to our teams and strong communication skills in verbal, written and electronic formats are critical for success. The candidate may be required to travel within North-America and overseas to represent Optiwave worldwide.

Summary of responsibilities

  • Research and development of tools for OptiFDTD , OptiMode, and OptiBPM software packages
  • Research in finite-difference time-domain (FDTD), beam propagation method (BPM), and mode solving techniques
  • Implementation of models in C++
  • Documentation of numerical models and technical background
  • Oversee simulation data within an integrated testing and verification environment for quality assurance.
  • Simulation and comparison with published results
  • Work with the support team providing high-level technical support to customers and worldwide distributors
  • Deliver training/workshop and seminars/webinars on Optiwave products
  • Support the sales team on product demonstrations and evaluations
  • Creating technical documents and examples based on knowledge, instruction, and problem identification, in order to build/improve Optiwave support website knowledgebase
  • Review product documentation prior to new releases
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • D. or M.Sc. with specialization in numerical modeling of photonic components.
  • Experience (theory and practice) in numerical modelling with specific knowledge of finite-difference time-domain applications
  • Strong knowledge of C++ and python
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
