The Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto invites applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) for a 1-year term appointment with the possibility of extensions, to join Professor Paul Brumer’s research group. The Research Associate is expected to independently carry out and develop new theoretical and computational approaches to the study of the coherent control of cold and ultracold molecular (including atom-molecule) collisions with a significant focus on metastable complex formation, within the formalism of time-independent quantum scattering theory. The Research Associate will work in collaboration with Professor Timur Tscherbul’s research group at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education – PhD in Chemistry or Physics, with focus on Theoretical AMO Physics/Theoretical Chemistry

Experience – Minimum two (2) years of postdoctoral experience in theoretical AMO physics and/or theoretical chemistry. Demonstrated experience on theoretical and computational studies of ultracold molecular collisions using time-independent quantum scattering theory.  Extensive experience in quantum interference-based coherent control is an asset.

Skills – Excellent research and analysis skills; excellent programming and computational skills; experience with molecular quantum scattering codes; strong oral and written communication skills; shows initiative and good judgment.

Other – Detail-oriented and accurate; ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment; willingness and ability to learn new techniques and keep up to date in the field.
