Job Description:

The Department of Physics (www.phys.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position.

Successful candidates maintain a strong research programme in one of the areas of computational physics such as condensed matter, quantum optics, quantum engineering, astrophysics, or high energy physics, and combine it with a broad portfolio of computational methodologies. Commitment to teaching and the ability to lead a research group are expected. Teaching duties focus on the computational curricula in the physics department as well as in the computational science and engineering programme at ETH Zurich and involve basic courses at the undergraduate level (in German or English) and advanced courses in the Master’s programme (in English). The Department of Physics offers a stimulating environment in both theoretical as well as experimental physics.

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent to other top international universities. The level of the appointment will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications.

Please apply online for an assistant professorship (tenure track)

Please apply online for a full professorship
no names of references required

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a statement of future research and teaching interests, a description of the leadership philosophy, a description of the three most important achievements* and the names of five references. The letter of application should be addressed to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Joël Mesot. The closing date for applications is 15 June 2022. ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family friendly employer, values diversity, strives to increase the number of women professors, and is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.

*ETH Zurich emphasizes qualitative assessment of academic accomplishments. This is why you are kindly asked to submit a short description of your three most important achievements (maximum a half page each). Besides research findings, these could also be extraordinary achievements in teaching and its further development, services in the benefit of the academic community or society, software development, patents, knowledge transfer and its practical application, spin-off companies or similar.
