What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Solutions Architect to support critical science and engineering computing environments as part of a fast-paced sophisticated agile team delivering modern computational engineering services and infrastructure. If you are self-motivated well rounded have experience with modern system architectures development methods tools and the underlying infrastructure you could be the next driven problem solver to join our team!

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Design architect implement and operate multi-server systems and storage solutions for production and prototype environments.
  • Automate the installation and secure configuration of operating systems and computational platforms.
  • Integrate cloud technologies and machine learning architectures into High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
  • Develop and deploy cloud and container technology for advanced and secure software analysis and machine learning development environments.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software vendors to configure and deploy computing systems and environments.
  • Profile diagnose and identify system issues and implement creative solutions.
  • Network with a diverse technical population to identify new opportunities for growing our capabilities and impact and collaborate across the Lab and other partner organizations.
  • Seek and participate in development and learning opportunities.
  • Mentor and seek opportunities to collaborate with other team members.

This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Computer Engineering Information Technology or related field plus five (5) years' experience; OR Master's degree plus two (2) years' experience; OR Associates degree plus nine (9) years' experience; ; OR High School diploma plus 13 years' experience
  • Experience configuring and coordinating Linux based server environments in production settings including computer system hardware networking (Ethernet and other high-speed interconnects) system software configuration management and systems monitoring.
  • Strong verbal and written customer service and communications skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with one or more of the following:
  • Deployment and operations of multi-rack compute and storage systems.
  • Configuring and leading redundant and distributed storage systems.
  • Systems-level testing fault investigation and anomaly resolution.
  • System security and information assurance.
  • Container runtimes and orchestration systems (i.e. Docker Podman and Kubernetes).
  • Deploying and leading private cloud systems hosted application runtime environments Data Analytics Machine Learning development and production environments.
  • Lead machine learning accelerator enabled or multi-GPU systems.
  • Continuous integration and automated testing systems.
  • Proficient with Git source control and configuration management languages such as Ansible.
  • Work on an agile team.
  • Customer interactions or project planning including researching requirements conducting feasibility studies advising for alternatives analyzing cost and schedule implications specifying technical system and subsystem solutions.
  • Understanding of ITIL and IT Service management standard methodologies.
  • Technical certifications such as Red Hat Certified System Administrator Red Hat Certified Engineer.
  • Active DOE or DOD Q clearance.

Science & Engineering Computing-Environment Services Department Org 9321 provides advanced capabilities and in-depth support for a broad range of scientific and engineering computing services which include: high performance computing remote graphics workstations high performance storage scientific and engineering applications web development software engineering and continuous integration (compilation and test) environments. The department designs develops manages and provides cutting edge software and tools across multiple platforms used to create complex mission unique capabilities. The department develops and implements new and emergent technologies and capabilities in support of mission and programmatic needs. We partner with other organizations and teams across the Laboratories to deliver user environments subject matter expert support and application-level software and tools to support the scientific and engineering communities.

Security Clearance:
