What you can expect

We from Materials Molecular Modeling are part of the large R&D family within BASF. Our unit brings expertise in model-based development of materials and formulations. Together with our colleagues from formulation polymer synthesis and biosciences we realize innovative solutions for the challenges of tomorrow.

  • You will be using your drive and expertise to address real-world challenges in interdisciplinary teams of motivated and experienced professionals.

  • Additionally you will be establishing and maintaining collaborations with academic research groups evaluating new approaches and exploring new application areas.

  • The project work will give you the opportunity to gain experience in project management within international teams.

  • You will be translating real world challenges of formulation and protein design into appropriate simulations (Dissipative Particle Dynamics coarse grained atomistic MD).

  • You will be parameterizing validating implementing and interpreting simulations of complex mixtures.

  • In addition to particle simulations you will be using machine learning to generate predictive models connecting structure and performance.

What we expect

  • PhD in biochemistry biotechnology chemical engineering computational biology chemistry physics or a related field with a strong background in molecular simulations; PostDoctoral experience in a relevant field

  • strong track record of research accomplishment demonstrated by impactful scientific publications in computational protein modeling and engineering

  • application-based experience with MD simulations statistical thermodynamics as well as with molecular modeling of proteins surfactants polymers and polyelectrolytes

  • experience with common software packages (e.g. Rosetta MOE Gromacs NAMD LAMMPS) machine learning libraries (e.g. PyTorch Scikit NumPy) as well as very good programming skills (Python)

  • understanding of polymer chemistry as well as basic knowledge of standard protein wet-lab methods is a plus

  • fluency in English is mandatory knowledge in German is a plus
