We are seeking Computational Scientists and Engineers to join our department!

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Use your technical judgment while utilizing the scientific method to recognize and formulate key computer science problems that span computational science domains
  • Engage with an agile team to research design and/or implement highly scalable concurrent runtimes and algorithms targeting emerging architectural platforms
  • Collaborate with diverse groups of domain experts to understand requirements co-design/development of scalable computer systems and/or applications
  • Develop fault diagnosis and recovery risk mitigation and co-design methods to improve the resilience of exascale platforms and applications experiencing hardware or software anomalies
  • Work closely with engineering analysis and software teams to ensure that the workflow infrastructure can support analysts developing credible models for ND impact

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in STEM field with at least five years relevant experience; or Masters degree in STEM field with at least one year of relevant experience; or PhD in STEM field; or 13 years of relevant engineering or scientific experience.
  • Knowledge skills and ability to perform independent research and development in computer or computational sciences or scalable systems through technical publications presentations or contributions to software tools/applications
  • Proficiency with code development and software engineering
  • Ability to hold a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance

Desired:

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a collective research environment on problems in a variety of domains
  • Proficiency in solving problems prioritizing work and making decisions
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: computer system performance modeling and analysis high-performance computing platforms and tools HPC system resilience theory of concurrency and parallelism large-scale concurrent algorithms and/or scalable programming models research and development
  • Experience with one or more of the following areas: delivering production software Object Oriented Programming in C# Java or C++ GUI development Simulation Process and Data Management Agile software development methodology version control systems and/or detailing software requirements and design
  • Experience with data science machine learning statistical methods and/or uncertainty quantification techniques
  • Background in solving practical problems in science and engineering that involve encounters with real-world data
  • Familiarity with the processes for obtaining and managing research funding including building project teams writing grants and progress reports and working with sponsors
  • Evidence of professional service to the community such as service on diversity and inclusion committees program committees workshop organization and/or editorial work

Department Description:

The Scalable Modeling and Analysis Department is home to a diverse community of researchers and engineers conducting research and development on massively scalable modeling and analysis systems for scientific computing engineering sciences and complex systems. Our team has broad multi-disciplinary interests spanning diverse research areas and solving computational science problems important to Sandias mission. Our computer science research spans concurrency and parallelism distributed systems programming languages compilers advanced architectures automated workflows data science and machine learning.

Security Clearance:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
