What You Will Do
Candidates will assist in several projects related to new material design and material degradation mechanistic pathways. Candidates will use density functional theory (DFT) methods as well as molecular dynamics (MD) for this work. The use of the latest DFT methods with a vast understanding of stereoelectronic effects for new material design is required. Candidates will use transition state theory to assist in reaction development.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Solid background in the following:
Geometry optimization using the latest DFT methods
Transition state theory including use of intrinsic reaction coordinates (IRC) for assistance in reaction development
Strong knowledge of stereoelectronic interactions for new material design including knowledge of NBO (Natural Bond Order) analysis
Strong knowledge and understanding of reaction mechanisms and the use of DFT methods to determine reaction and degradation pathways
Excellent written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by writing and/or editing technical journals papers or proposals
Strong interpersonal and communication skills as demonstrated by experience with public speaking experience presenting technical information and data to a broad audience and experience working with interdisciplinary teams having diverse technical backgrounds
Ability to work productively on multiple projects as demonstrated by meeting deadlines goals and requirements ability to work with minimal supervision
Education/Experience: Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field completed within the last five years or soon to be completed.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of Molecular Dynamics (MD) for the study of bulk material properties
Use of Reactive MD (ReaxFF) for assistance in predicting material properties
Firm knowledge of Gaussian ADF Gromacs (or equivalent MD software) and high-performance computing
Performing TD-DFT and other methods to study excited-state geometries and dynamics
Strong knowledge of aromaticity and the use of NICS (nuclear independent chemical shift)
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos New Mexico.
