Faculty - Computational/Theoretical Neuroscience #NRB005A

Department of Neurobiology, Biological Sciences Division
Position Type: Faculty

Chicago, IL

Aug 1, 2022

Description

The University of Chicago's Grossman Center for Quantitative Biology and Human Behavior and the Department of Neurobiology seek faculty in computational/theoretical neuroscience. The appointees will be core members of the Grossman Center for Quantitative Biology and Human Behavior and will lead a ‘dry’ computational lab alongside a growing group of other computational neuroscientists. Appointees will be expected to establish deep and extensive collaborations with the vibrant experimental neuroscience community at the University of Chicago. We especially welcome applicants who are developing computational models and analysis methods at the cellular, circuits, systems, or cognitive levels. Rank and tenure status will be commensurate with qualification, although we anticipate appointment at the tenure-track assistant professor level.

The University of Chicago is currently engaged in a major expansion in neuroscience, with computational neuroscience being an area of focus. The University offers a rich intellectual environment that includes a strong translational neuroscience community and affiliations with Argonne National Laboratory and the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole. The Division, other academic units of the University, and the School of Medicine, are all contained within one compact campus in Chicago's Hyde Park. Appointees will have access to state-of-the-art core facilities and to outstanding colleagues and graduate students affiliated with numerous degree-granting programs within and outside the biological sciences.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be considered, those interested must apply through the University of Chicago’s Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications: http://apply.interfolio.com/110683. Applicants must upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae with bibliography, contact information for 3 references, a statement outlining past and prospective research, and a teaching statement that can include a description of the candidate’s experience in teaching diverse students [the University’s Diversity Statement can be found at https://provost.uchicago.edu/statements-diversity]. Review of complete applications will begin October 15 2022 and continue until the position is filled.

All University departments and institutes are charged with building a faculty from a diversity of backgrounds and with diverse viewpoints; with cultivating an inclusive community that values freedom of expression; and with welcoming and supporting all their members.

We seek a diverse pool of applicants who wish to join an academic community that places the highest value on rigorous inquiry and encourages diverse perspectives, experiences, groups of individuals, and ideas to inform and stimulate intellectual challenge, engagement, and exchange. The University’s Statements on Diversity are at https://provost.uchicago.edu/statements-diversity.
