Position Summary

The Epigenomics Lab at Princess Margaret Genomics Centre is dedicated to understanding the epigenetic mechanisms that underlie cancer progression and treatment response. We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics/Data Science Analyst to join our dynamic team. This position is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the candidate’s duties will include a variety of epigenomic/genomic computational analysis necessary for this project. The bioinformatician will have an integral role in our research team, focusing on the analysis of epigenomics data to advance our understanding of cancer biology. The successful candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics, with specific expertise in the analysis of epigenomic assays such as 3D genome architecture (Hi-C), CUT&RUN, and ATAC-seq. Proficiency in Python and R programming is essential for this role.

Duties

  • Process, analyze, and interpret high-throughput epigenomics data, including but not limited to Hi-C, CUT&RUN, and ATAC-seq.
  • Develop and implement bioinformatic pipelines and algorithms for the analysis of epigenomic data.
  • Collaborate with experimental biologists to design experiments and interpret results.
  • Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and presentations for scientific conferences.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest bioinformatic tools and epigenomics research.
  • Manage and maintain databases for the storage and retrieval of genomic data.

The position will also require proper documentation of the results, being well organized and flexibility in working with other members of the team. Candidates should also be eager to work in a multi-disciplinary collaborative setting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum completion of a Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, computer sciences, computational biology, engineering, or mathematics, or equivalent education or work experience; 
  • Up to and including 1 year practical and related experience 
  • Strong programming skills in Python and R.
  • Experience in a unix/linux environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with epigenomics assays, including Hi-C, CUT&RUN, and ATAC-seq.
  • Familiarity with genomic data analysis tools and databases.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
