The University of Copenhagen seeks to appoint an associate professor of bioinformatics to the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) to commence as soon as possible.

The appointment is for a fixed term and expires 31 January 2027.

Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine focuses on basic cellular and molecular biological processes their regulation and their significance for cell function interaction and organisation in tissues. The Department offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate teaching programs spanning cell biology genetics and basic human biology including chemistry biochemistry physiology as well as anatomy. Job description

The associate professors responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research including publication/academic dissemination.
  • Research-based teaching including postgraduate teaching and PhD course organization and including associated examination.
  • Research leadership including guidance and supervision of researchers.
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society including participation in public debate.
  • Conducting academic assessments.

Required qualifications

Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore each applicant must be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc but may also be obtained in other ways.
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies.
  • Research-based teaching.

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

The successful applicant should be able to document:

  • Research qualifications achievable in a position as assistant professor or equivalent within the subject area.
  • A deep understanding of biology and experience with diverse fields
  • Bioinformatics expertise including development of software for high throughput genomics/epigenomics analysis.
  • Experience with genome-wide analysis of for example ChIP-seq ATAC-seq WGBS DIP-seq RNA-seq. and modRNA-seq.
  • Experience in bioinformatics with low-input samples and single cells.
  • A proven track record of extensive program design and development with a focus on data visualization and exploration in genomics and epigenetics.
  • Wet-lab insight and experience and integration of experimental and computational biology.
  • Previous experience with image analysis is an advantage.
  • Research-based teaching including PhD course organization in bioinformatics.
  • Publications as a senior author or co-author in international journals.

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

The working language of the department is English and consequently the successful applicant must possess excellent skills in written and spoken English.

Place of employment

The initial place of employment will be at the Center for Chromosome Stability at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years and 7 months.

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
