Overview:

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Biostatistics and Multiscale Systems Group in Advanced Computing in Health Sciences Section of the Computational Science and Engineering Division (CSED). The candidate will work in a collaborative research and development environment focusing on artificial intelligence and machine learning on high-performance computing environment. We are specifically seeking people with solid high-performance computing experience and background and novel computer architectures. The position requires innovative thinking to design and implement machine learning statistical probabilistic or algorithmic solutions to real world problems in healthcare and biomedical research.

The candidatewill be a Postdoctoral Research Associate withintheBiostatistics and Multiscale Systems (BMS)Group of the Advanced Computing in Health Sciences Section (ACH) in CSED. The ACH delivers scalable and computational solutions to biomedical and healthcare delivery challenges. The BMS Group focuses on conducting research in computational data and engineering sciences in the context of biomedical clinical and public health disciplines and applying this knowledge to support the nations leading health initiatives.

As a postdoctoral research associate you will have the opportunity to help solve some of the most challenging problems this country faces. You will perform ground breaking research on a wide range of significant problems with the fastest computing platforms in the world. This position requires novel thinking teamwork and discovery in finding new approaches for analyzing massive and complex data collaborating with worldwide experts and publishing groundbreaking results.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Research

  • Research and development of scalable artificial intelligence machine learning and deep learning models using ORNLs leadership class supercomputing facility.
  • Perform research with scalable Transformer-based models like BERT with clinical text and imaging data.
  • Collaborate with ACH/CSED scientists in a wide variety of other data analytics and deep learning research.
  • Author peer reviewed papers technical papers reports and proposals for internal and external release and represent the organization by giving technical presentations in large public forums.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering Computer Science Applied Mathematics Computational Science or a field closely related to the job duties of this position completed within the last 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated good academic standing and the ability to conduct independent and significant research.
  • Position requires the ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated programming ability and knowledge of Python C/C++ or other commonly used languages.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks like Tensorflow or PyTorch and application on high-performance computing environments using distributed data or model parallel training.
  • Flexibility with regard to the research assignments is required.

Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be for up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and the availability of funding.
