Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mathematics or a closely related field and have demonstrated a strong record of independent research. Candidates should display proficiency in both Applied Mathematics and Computational Mathematics and show the potential and commitment to seek extramural funding. Candidates are expected to perform research in the development and implementation of computational and applied mathematics methods to real-life applications. The successful candidate will work closely with the members of the Nonlinear Dynamical Systems (NLDS) Group (http://nlds.sdsu.edu), researchers affiliated with the Computational Science Research Center (CSRC; http://www.csrc.sdsu.edu/), and external collaborators in applications to compelling problems in science and engineering. Candidates will supervise PhD students in Computational Science jointly with UC Irvine, as well as MS students in mathematics. We are looking for individuals with a strong combination of applied mathematics and computing/numerical skills to work at the interface of real-world and state-of-the-art science and engineering problems.

We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. Candidates must satisfy three or more of the eight Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria.
