Lectureship/Readership in Applied & Computational Mathematics 

Grade UE08/UE09

Salary - £45,585 - £54,395 / £57,696 - £64,914

School of Mathematics 

Full time - 35 hours per week

Open ended

 

The School of Mathematics is seeking to appoint to a lectureship in Applied & Computational Mathematics (equivalent to Assistant Professor) to start in September 2024 or later by agreement. Very strong and experienced applicants may be appointed to a Readership (equivalent to Associate Professor).

We are seeking candidates with a track record of high-quality research in applied mathematics and/or computational mathematics. Experience of multidisciplinary research and/or knowledge exchange with industry or commerce are desirable. The successful candidate will carry out high-quality research and contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses including our successful MSc programme in Computational Applied Mathematics.

The Applied & Computational Mathematics research Theme in the School of Mathematics combines expertise in mathematical modelling, numerical analysis and machine learning to develop new techniques for applications such as data analytics, fluid dynamics, health care and the life sciences, molecular dynamics and material sciences. We are looking for first class researchers who enhance or complement those strengths and have a keen interest in applying mathematics to address pressing societal or scientific challenges. The role includes the supervision of student projects, assessment of students, helping to develop courses, connect with industry where this is appropriate, and teaching-related administration. The School takes career development seriously and will provide tailored mentoring in both research and teaching.

A PhD in Mathematics or a related area and some experience of relevant teaching at University level are essential, as well as being able to demonstrate independence, effective team working, good communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary Scale: £45,585 - £54,395. Very strong and experienced applicants may be appointed to a Readership, for which the salary is £57,696 - £64,914
