UES, Inc. has an opportunity available for a Research Scientist to join our collaborative multidisciplinary team at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The research project will focus on studying the dynamics and rheology of resilient polymer materials using coarse-grained molecular simulations, theory, and/or machine learning.

A background and experience in polymer science, molecular dynamics simulations, rheology, and high-performance computing (e.g., using GPUs), coupled with strong communication skills, will be required for this role.

The Research Scientist will work closely with both AFRL materials researchers as well as professors, students, staff, and industry collaborators to model equilibrium structure-property relationships and non-equilibrium processing (e.g., flow) of polymer materials for AF applications.

Requirements:

  • This position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study is required
  • 2+ years of experience working in a similar function (inclusive of academic and industrial experience)
  • Technical expertise in multiple of the following is required: coarse-grained polymer models, machine learning algorithms (supervised/unsupervised, regression/classification, etc.), MD simulation software (LAMMPS, GROMACS, etc.), programming language (Python, C++, etc.), high-performance computing (e.g., using GPUs)
