The Department of Physics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a

Full Professorship for ‘Computational Materials Science’ (W3)

from 01. March 2024.

 

The new appointee will be a faculty member of the Department of Physics which is part of the Faculty for Mathematics and Natural Sciences at HU Berlin. Membership of the Center for the Science of Materials Berlin (CSMB) is also desired. They are expected to pursue research in the area of computational materials science combining theoretical solid-state physics and modern data-driven approaches. The latter include artificial intelligence (AI) methods for exploring structure-property relationships of materials based on experimental and computational data. Possible material systems include but are not limited to electronic and functional materials in energy conversion and storage. In addition, a 9SWS (teaching hours per week during the semester) contribution will be made to teaching at the Institute of Physics.

Applicants should have made a significant contribution to scientific advances in their field. They should have experience in running a research group, managing scientific projects, acquiring third-party funding, and have a broad national and international collaboration network. They should contribute to ongoing research activities of the Institute of Physics. It is expected to participate in ongoing and future cooperative research initiatives of the Institute of Physics and/or other research institutions in Berlin. Proficient teaching skills are expected alongside well-developed gender and diversity skills.

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the `Berliner Hochschulgesetz`.
