Job Description:

At Meta’s Reality Labs Research, our goal is to make world-class consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Come work alongside industry-leading scientists and engineers to create the technology that makes VR and AR pervasive and universal. Join the adventure of a lifetime as we make science fiction real and change the world. As a Computational Chemist at Meta, in our Optics & Display Research group (O&DR), you will play a critical role in developing AR/VR systems. You will focus on developing advanced materials, process and devices for near eye displays, and will become part of a team exploring novel concepts through design, modeling, and fast iterative prototyping. We are seeking someone who works well in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment, who communicates complex concepts clearly and succinctly, who demonstrates scientific rigor, who is unafraid to tackle new challenges, and who works well in high-ambiguity discovery phases. If you are passionate about using your generalist-head to push the boundaries of what is possible, we want you on our team.
Computational Chemist Responsibilities
  • Play a critical role in developing/identifying new materials and process for AR/VR systems.
  • Develop/utilize advanced computational models including ab-initio ground state and excited state calculations to identify potential materials and process for optical and electrical applications.
  • Support the team exploring novel concepts through design, modeling, and fast iterative prototyping.
  • Develop and implement research agendas, apply high standards to the research, and develop an ability to identify highly impactful projects in a complete and unexplored domain.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • PhD degree or equivalent experience in Computational Physics, Computational Chemistry, or a similar field.
  • 3+ years of experience utilizing/developing computational methods for material discovery
  • Experience implementing Quantum mechanical calculations using commercial softwares like VASP, Gaussian, FHI-aim and/or open-source software packages such as QE, Orca, NWChem, etc.
  • Research background in small organics, ground-state and excited-state properties.
  • Experience with Machine Learning including GNNs for material discovery.
  • Experience solving analytical problems using analytic and quantitative approaches.
  • Experience communicating research to audiences with different backgrounds.
  • Experience coding in C/C++, Python, C#, or other similar languages.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience having first-authored publications at top tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
  • Research and engineering experience demonstrated via grants, fellowships, patents, internships, work experience, and/or coding competitions.
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, trade-offs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
  • Experience communicating research for public audiences of peers.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
  • Experience developing beyond DFT approaches such as GW and GW-BSE.
  • Experience with multiscale modeling of charge transport in organic materials including QMMC, KMC, drift-diffusion, etc.
