The Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS) mission is to Pioneer Partner and Predict to drive transformative insights for patient benefit. IPS conducts applied computational research in areas that include genomic structural and molecular informatics computational and systems biology patient selection and translational biomarker research and broader fields including knowledge science epidemiology and machine learningacross the full lifecycle of drug discovery and development and across all therapeutic areas at BMS. We do this in close partnership with scientific and clinical experts in the field both inside and outside the company. We are seeking a principal software engineer to help advance our NGS data management and analysis platform. This role serves as a key member of the group to develop & maintain our NGS platform as well as help enable our scientists with new genomic data analysis capabilities. Expertise in the software development lifecycle Python/Flask framework front-end UI/UX Amazon Web Services are prerequisite. Experience or knowledge in processing analyzing integrating and visualizing NGS data as well as creating CWL-based pipelines would be beneficial. The Computational Genomics group is made up of scientists and software developers who perform a combination of NGS data analysis and/or engineering to support both research projects and clinical trials. Our primary focus is to: Manage NGS data across the organization Process NGS data in support of research and clinical trials Integrate or develop new tools and analysis pipelines to support multiple therapeutic areas (including Immuno-Oncology Cardiovascular Fibrosis and Immunoscience) through the strategic application of cutting-edge bioinformatics approaches Develop integrate and support infrastructure to enable all the above Responsibilities Support and continue to develop platform used to facilitate data gathering ingestion and acquisition by various groups around the world. Support and continue to develop data integration services to help automate analysis of data on various platforms. Create automation systems and tools to configure monitor and orchestrate data infrastructure and pipelines. Support and continue to develop Web-based user interface for all of the above. Maintain ongoing reliability performance and support of both front-end and back-end infrastructure including providing solutions based on application needs and anticipated growth. Work closely with scientists and engineers within (and outside) the group to design develop and build integrated solutions for improved usability and serviceability. Stay current on modern software architectures for various use-cases. Contribute to documentation of software workflows and infrastructure. Mentor junior developers and review contributions to code base. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of academic / industry experience (Computer Science Bioinformatics or similar field). or Master's Degree and 6+ years of academic / industry experience (Computer Science Bioinformatics or similar field). or PhD and 4+ years of academic / industry experience (Computer Science Bioinformatics or similar field). Preferred Qualifications B.S. with 8+ yrs. M.S. with 5+ yrs. or Ph.D. with 2+ yrs. of academic / industry experience (Computer Science Bioinformatics or similar field). Multiple years of experience building large complex distributed scalable software applications Experience using various modern front-end and back-end frameworks including Python Flask relational (Postgres MySQL Oracle) and NoSQL databases. Experience with AWS services including Elastic Beanstalk ECS/ECR AWS Batch CloudWatch. Skills Abilities and Competencies: Fluency with Linux-based high-performance computing environments including AWS Web Services (Elastic Beanstalk EC2 S3 CloudFormation Batch CloudWatch Lambda ECR) Docker Source Control systems Git conventions and CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or GitHub Actions Writing front-end and back-end code to implement requirements along with unit and integration tests to ensure code works as expected Knowledge of UI/UX best practices Knowledge of Javascript and various web development frameworks. Strong detail-oriented problem-solving and collaboration skills and rigorous creative thinking Proven ability to work independently (with necessary guidance) self-motivated to learn and integrate new technologies manage multiple projects simultaneously keep accurate records/notes and comply with company policies Excellent written and oral communication skills including an ability to explain complex ideas to various groups of scientists and engineers Knowledge of CWL pipeline development and execution using open source tools a plus. Knowledge of commonly used NGS/Bioinformatics analysis tools such as samtools picard GATK and common file formats such as FASTQ VCF and BAM a plus The starting compensation for this job is a range from $121000 to $167200 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job such as required skills and where the job is performed.
