What You Will Do

Materials Synthesis and Integrated Devices Group (MPA-11) is seeking outstanding Postdoc to join a multi-disciplinary team with on-going research efforts in fundamental and applied materials science and engineering. Active areas of research include process modeling and optimization for water treatment and sustainability energy processes development including: water treatment, hydrogen production, carbon capture & utilization and air separation. Selected candidate will perform heat exchangers and reactors computational fluid dynamics (CFD), corrosion and stress modeling for operations at high operating temperature and pressure relevant to super-critical water desalination and oxidation. The selected candidate will also be involved in life cycle analysis and techno-economic analysis of energy and water treatment processes and systems. The selected candidate will be collaborating with team experimentalist and modelers for different sustainable energy and water solutions.

We are seeking candidates having R&D experience in one or more of the research topics listed below.
  • CFD modeling for different turbomachinery (heat exchangers, reactors, cyclone separators, flash tank, etc.).
  • Corrosion modeling for predicting the equipment life.
  • Techno-economic/life-cycle analysis.
  • Clean energy and/or novel water treatment process development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in programming platforms (e.g. Python /C++/Matlab /Aspen).
  • Integration of desalination system with hydrogen production processes (including steam methane reforming and electrolysis processes).



What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Demonstrated experience performing work in a research-oriented environment (academic, government, or industrial),
  • A demonstrated record of technical excellence and innovative thinking as evidenced by publication and presentation records and letters of reference,
  • Good communication skills (both oral and written),
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team or independently in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Ability to plan and organize assignments and meet project deadlines.


Education/Experience:

A PhD in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or other closely related discipline completed within the last 5 years or soon to be completed.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
