What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution of science on behalf of national security. This is a two-year position for two post-docs available immediately.

The Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics of Theoretical division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking candidates for two postdoctoral appointments in the fields of computational physics. The postdoc researcher is expected to conduct fundamental, applied, or interdisciplinary research towards improving predictive capabilities of model in modeling behavior of high explosives. The successful candidate will pursue model development, implementation, and validation against experimental data. Collaboration with experimental investigators, theoretical and computational chemists, are also desirable.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • A doctoral degree in science, physics, applied mathematics or related fields completed within the past five years or soon to be completed.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated record of achievements in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or solid mechanics code development, including one or more of the following:

o Knowledge in chemically reacting flows.

o Ability in written and oral communication.

o Ability to collaborate effectively.

o Programming experience with languages such as Fortran, matlab, python etc, for scientific applications

o Experience in high explosive modeling or experiments.

o Experience in damage and fracture modeling.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Q Clearance: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
