Job Description

GDIT is seeking a Computational Scientist to support the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) User Productivity Enhancement and Training (PET). As a Computational Scientist, you will join a team of innovative and savvy engineers and scientists, focusing on building collaborative relationships with the HPC community to better understand their technology needs and challenges. Our team of computational scientists that help solve the HPC challenges for DoD scientists and engineers.

The HPCMP PET team was created to provide expert computational support for users of the supercomputing computing systems within the DoD.  The team serves as a customer-facing presence for the DoD science and technology community, providing SME advice for new initiatives, ongoing projects, and support needs.

Position is hybrid with onsite and remote work.  However, you must live within commuting distance to the client site in Dayton, OH to attend weekly or ad hoc meetings as needed.    


HOW A SCIENTIST ADVISOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

You will join a team of computational experts representing a critical mass of expertise in key areas of support for the HPCMP. These teams provide deep technical expertise in HPC that can be applied to a diverse range of scientific disciplines.

Sample areas include computational fluid dynamics (CFD); computational structural mechanics (CSM); computational electromagnetics and acoustics (CEA); forces modeling and simulation (FMS); integrated modeling and test environments (IMT); autonomy; high-performance data analytics (HPDA); and physics informed machine learning (ML)/Artificial Intelligence (AI).

  • Engage with HPC community to build an understanding of HPC needs (both current and future) and stay current with new technology solutions and optimizations

  • Drive exploration and innovation of new technologies and capabilities relevant to HPC computing and collaborate with other technical teams to evaluate for future implementation.

  • In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Attending or leading meetings and discussions with team members and customers to troubleshoot complicated technical problems and brainstorm ways to continuously improve our services

  • Working closely with other team members and your Team Lead to enhance and expand fundamental HPC capabilities

  • Occasionally present to senior leadership on HPC best practices, new and interesting cloud technologies, and ways you approached and solved challenging technical issues

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • PhD or MS and five additional years of work experience, in Physical Science/Computer Science/Engineering.

  • Minimum of three years of relevant HPC experience

  • Experience working on technology projects, which includes meeting the schedule on time and managing customer expectations

  • Familiarity with commonly used HPC services (i.e. SLURM schedulers, high performant file systems, such as Lustre or SpectrumScale, modules for installing applications)

  • Ability to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users

  • Experience analyzing solutions components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps that must be resolved to reach performance targets and functionality requirements

  • Expertise with multiple common scientific computing programming languages and programming models

  • Experience with Linux on large scale systems.

  • Extensive knowledge of HPC and parallel programming techniques (e.g. MPI, OpenMP), in multiple physical science domains.

  • Security Clearance Level: Must be a US citizen and be eligible for a DoD clearance
