Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 annual commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN per hour commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy

Status: Temporary Full-Time

Position Summary

Working under the direction of the Project Manager and Lead Data Scientist, a bioinformatics analyst will be responsible for applying their technical knowledge and skills in the domains of computational biology and/or bioinformatics towards the collection and analysis of genomic data. They will support, design, and implement computationally focused, interdisciplinary scientific research projects and keep abreast of current principles, theories, and techniques relevant to computational biology/bioinformatics.

Duties:

  • Collect, manage, and study genomic data by using computer software and hardware;
  • Work with external and internal stakeholders to develop a platform to support precision medicine projects;
  • Annotate and analyze data for further analysis or research;
  • Systematic exploration of high-dimensional data to identify new computational approaches;
  • Integrative analysis of multiple data types.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in computer science, bioinformatics, data science or related field;
  • Background in machine learning and data analysis;
  • Proficiency in python and/or R;
  • Proficiency in Unix or Linux;
  • Familiarity with HPC environment and running applications in HPC clusters;
  • Background in biology, genetics, medicine and/or statistics;
  • Strong portfolio of projects using genomic data or demonstrates familiarity with whole genome sequencing;
  • Able to commit to the role for 1 year and can come in person 1-2 days a week.
