The Masonic Medical Research Institute (mmri.edu) is looking for enthusiastic candidates at any career stage to join the laboratory of Dr. Nathan Tucker (www.mmri.edu/tucker-lab/). Successful candidates will join a research program which focuses on mechanistically understanding the effects of human genetic variation (such as that identified by GWAS) on cardiovascular phenotypes. To reach these goals, we travel a research path that requires the coordination and collaboration of both laboratory and computational team members. While a base level of experience will be important for a successful candidate, we equally weigh enthusiasm, curiosity, long-term potential, and team fit for anyone who might join the lab. We will consider individuals with exclusive focus on either bench science or computational work and those with blended experience/interest between the two. The important thing is that your goals fit with those of the group, and that our group is a good fit for you.
Specific projects include defining epigenomic and transcriptomic changes in normal and disease conditions, single-cell sequencing for discovery and definition of novel cell states in human disease, large-scale CRISPR-mediated screening of coding and non-coding variant function, assessment of disease-causing variation in model organisms, and intersection of all previously mentioned data with human population genetics and health outcome data.
In addition to internally driven projects, our group also has extensive national and international collaborations, including with groups at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Columbia University, Massachusetts General Hospital, the University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University, and others.
