There is a vacancy for a PhD Research Fellow in Applied and Computational Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics. The position is for a fixed-term period of 4 years. The position is funded by the University of Bergen.

The position is connected with the Horizon Europe project RESCUER. The main goal in this project is to find efficient numerical methods in order to make nearshore wave forecasting faster, more efficient and more accurate. It is expected that the person to be appointed in this position will be using and developing Boussinesq models for ocean waves.

• Applicants must hold a master's degree or equivalent education in applied or computational mathematics or must have submitted his/her master's thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the master's degree has been awarded.
• Applicants must be able to write codes in python or C++.
• Experience writing scientific texts is an advantage.
• Teaching experience and knowledge of ocean wave theory is an advantage.
• Applicants must be able to work independently and in a structured manner and demonstrate good collaborative skills.
• Applicants must be proficient in both written and oral English.
• A good command of the Norwegian language is an advantage.

Personal and relational qualities will be emphasized. Ambitions and potential will also count when evaluating the candidates.
