The University of St Andrews is seeking to recruit an outstanding individual to fill a professorial position in the general area of computational Inorganic Chemistry with established expertise in organometallic chemistry and catalysis. 

 

The School of Chemistry is internationally recognised for its research (https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/chemistry/research/). The joint EaStCHEM submission with the School of Chemistry, University of Edinburgh was highly ranked in the REF 2021 assessment. Research within EaStCHEM is characterized by five research themes: Catalysis and synthesis; Energy, environmental and sustainable chemistry; Functional materials; Structural chemistry and chemical dynamics and the Chemistry biology interface. The University topped the rankings in the Times UK Good University Guide (2022), the first non-Oxbridge institution to do so.

 

This position is part of an initiative to further strengthen computational chemistry research in the School of Chemistry.  The successful candidate will be encouraged to establish collaborations within the School of Chemistry as well as with other Schools within the University, as well as providing leadership concerning the long-term provision for high-performance computing within St Andrews.

 

Applicants should present a clear vision of how they will develop and drive an ambitious programme that expands and complements our existing research strengths and underpins innovative teaching at all levels of study. Candidates are expected to show sustained international leadership and have a track record demonstrating originality and a contribution to the advancement of knowledge.

  • A list of research achievements to date (One to two pages, including a summary of grant income) 
  • A list of the applicant’s four most significant scientific publications with a summary statement of their originality and significance (one page) 
  • A statement of the applicant’s vision for their research at St Andrews (one to two pages)
  • A statement of the applicant’s teaching philosophy (one page)
  • A statement addressing past and/or potential future contributions to equality, diversity and inclusion through research, teaching and/or service
  • A statement addressing past, present and future strategies for leadership
