The cardiac genetic group is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 2-year position to commence on the 1st of August or as soon as possible. You willbe part of our team leading research on finding genetic mechanisms underlying complex heart diseases.

Our research
Our research aim is to understand cardiac arrhythmia and structural heart disease through genetics and how such diseases can lead to cardiovascular events. We are a team of dedicated researchers passionate about translational science with access to excellent research facilities in modern laboratories and large high-performance computing clusters.

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in learning and applying new bioinformatics techniques and has a strong publication record in within genetics and human disease in high-level international scientific journals. You are expected to be the bioinformatic cornerstone in our research environment within translational cardiac research.

Profile
Your position at Copenhagen University will include research teaching disseminating findings organizational contribution external funding and supervision of Masters and Ph.D. students.

Furthermore we are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experience:

Essential skills:

  • You have a Ph.D. in genetics computational biology or bioinformatics.
  • You have excellent skills inprogramming languages such as Python or R Linux and Git version control and experience working on high-performance clusters.
  • Experience in handling and analyzing large patient or biological datasets e.g. UK Biobank.
  • Experience with various bioinformatics analytics approaches and techniques
  • Documented experience in performing GWAS and ExWAS.
  • Strong foundation in statistics
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Interest and curiosity within the field of translational science e.g. pharmacology cardiovascular disease and clinical translation.

Desirable skills:

  • A strong publication record with first authorships in leading journals
  • Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmia and structural heart disease.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills
  • Self-sufficient and able to lead projects from start to end

The cardiac genetic group is located on the 9th floor in Mrks tower at KU close to central Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratory space and several core facilities shared between the 7 research groups on the 9th floor and the neighboring university hospital Rigshosptialet. The Cardiac Genetics groups have bi-weekly journal clubs and data clubs. BMI runs seminars with invited speakers a young researchers club ASAP our Ph.D. program MoMeD and ourPostdoc Career Programme. Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years. The starting date is 1st of August or as soon as possible.

Salary pension and other conditions of employment are set by the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or another relevant organization. Depending on qualifications a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1% to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a Ph.D. degree and have not been tax liable in Denmark for the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
