Overview:  
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is one of the nation’s largest multi-program science and technology laboratories within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED) at ORNL is tasked with advancing enrichment technologies and exploring stable isotope production and application. The division leverages an elite staff of scientists and engineers with the world-leading capabilities of ORNL to deliver groundbreaking advancements with a variety of applications, from national security to life-saving medical treatments. ESED is currently seeking a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) expert to develop a novel computational architecture capable of simulating the complex behavior of fluids at all scales. A successful candidate will collaborate with computer scientists and experimental facilities to develop verified models initially focused on enrichment technologies.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:  
•    Apply initial modeling efforts as they pertain to enrichment technologies.
•    Publish high quality research results in peer-reviewed open or classified journals and conferences, if authorized by the sponsoring agency.
•    Publish and present non-sensitive research in journals and conferences.
•    Develop and write proposals for cutting edge research and funding.
•    Deliver ORNL’s mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Basic Qualifications:
•    Ph.D. degree in physics, computer science, aerospace engineering or closely related field.
•    At least 2 years of post-graduate experience.
•    Demonstrated experience in the field of computational fluid dynamics
•    Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Strong computational skills with modeling and simulation experience using High Performance Computing environments. 
•    A record of significant technical publications.
•    Excellent communication (spoken and written)
•    Familiarity with Finite Element Methods. 
•    Experience with multiscale modeling, including kinetic theory

Special Requirements:
Q  clearance:

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
