Overview. The Computational and Applied Mathematics (CAM) Group is seeking qualified applicants for staff-level positions in several general areas, including data analytics, multiscale modeling and simulations, optimization, scalable algorithms (including mathematical software), and uncertainty quantification. Applicants will be expected to advance a program in fundamental mathematics research in a way that will lead to tangible impacts on DOE mission science. Major Duties and Responsibilities. The position requires collaboration within a multi-disciplinary research environment consisting of mathematicians, computational and computer scientists, and domain scientists (both theoretical and experimental) conducting basic and applied research in support of the Laboratory’s mission. Specific responsibilities include: Participation in the development and analysis of new computational methodologies for scientific problems, often customized to large-scale scientific applications. Delivery and support of mathematical technologies for various scientific disciplines and applications. Dissemination of research through peer-reviewed papers and technical reports, as well as seminar and conference presentations. Active participation in professional organizations. Basic Qualifications. Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematical Engineering, Data/Computational Science or a field relevant to the job duties of this position. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications. One of more of the following: Strong background in numerical methods and analysis for partial differential equations, optimization, high-dimensional sampling and approximation, or inverse problems. Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of scalable numerical algorithms on HPC architectures and within a team environment.
