University Assistant (post doc)
at the Computational Materials Physics

Reference number: 13972

Our group develops and applies methods based on quantum mechanics to describe condensed matter systems, among them the successful software package VASP (Vienna ab-initio Simulation Package). Currently, the group consists of two full Professors, one associate Professor, several PostDocs and about 10 PhD students, as well as master students. Computing time is available on our local cluster and on the Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC), a supercomputer shared between the major Universities of Austria. We focus on the development of methods for solving the many-electron Schrödinger equation for Fermions and Bosons with high accuracy, and on the application of these methods to problems in the physics of oxides, semiconductors and their surfaces. Machine learning techniques are used to bridge the complexity gap. Candidates have an outstanding record or show exceptional promise in any area of computational theoretical solid state physics including - but not restricted to - modelling of oxides and their surfaces, machine learning techniques and/or developing novel solutions to solve the many-body Schrödinger equation. Candidates with shown expertise in developing new computational methods and applying them on high performance computers will be given preference. Furthermore, interactions with experimental and other theoretical groups in Vienna are desirable. The candidate should also actively contribute to and interact with the SFB TACO, https://sfb-taco.at/ a large joint research project funded by the Austrian science fund. All applications shall include i) letter of motivation ii) CV including full academic record iii) list of courses as well as lists of publications and talks including one or two reprints representative of previous research iv) expression of research interest and research agenda / of the intended habilitation project (if applicable) (two pages) v) ideally two letters of recommendation.
